Inclusive Sex Education Information Session
August 20, 2024 @ 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm
Coming this fall! A queer-inclusive, sex-positive sex education class for tweens and teens, with one-time workshops offered for parents. Led by Kim Adamski, BS, CHW, professional sex educator and Q Plus employee, this series offers a safe space for important conversations and guidance to help young people understand fact/fiction, ask critical questions, and make healthy choices. This program is offered in partnership with Q Plus and Out Accountability Project CT.

Who and What
Sex Ed 101 (ages 9-13)
A four week program that helps lay the educational groundwork 9- to 13-year-olds will need to grow into healthy sexual beings as adults. Sex ed isn’t just a one-time talk with your teenager about mechanics and condoms. It starts earlier than that, with discussions about boundaries, healthy relationships, and keeping your body healthy. Sex Ed 101 will cover relationships and communication, boundaries and consent, anatomy and sex basics, and porn literacy.
Sex Ed 201 (ages 14-18)
A six-week comprehensive and inclusive sex ed program for teens. Sessions will be discussion-based and cover relationships and communication, boundaries and consent,anatomy and types of sex, safer sex, sexual pleasure, porn literacy, and inclusivity (disability and neurodivergence) and sexual creativity.
Sex Ed for Caregivers: Providing Accurate Sexual Education as a Caregiver (adults caring for tweens and teens)
A one-time workshop for caregivers that will cover developmentally appropriate education, approaches to talking about beliefs and values, and practical tools to facilitate conversations with the young people in your care.
When
Fall 2024. Specifics are still being confirmed. Youth sessions will likely be on weekday evenings once a week, and one-time caregiver sessions will likely be offered on a weekend. Sex Ed 101 is planned to begin in September, and Sex Ed 201 is planned to begin in October.
Where
Space is still being confirmed, but the goal is to meet in Central Connecticut.
Why
The benefits of early and factual sex educations are many, including reduced teen pregnancy/STIs (SIECUS), delayed first time having sex (Guttmacher), increased condom/contraceptive use (AAP), better communication skills (AAP), and healthier relationships (AAP).
